Undergraduate Studies: North Central University

My undergrad studies had a huge impact on my personal character development. I chose to attend North Central University (NCU), located in downtown Minneapolis.

Being the oldest of four children, I have always been one to take on extra responsibilities and to get involved pretty quickly. While at North Central, I participated in many different activities and took on many leadership roles, such as:

  • Orientation Leader – During my sophomore year, I held classes for freshmen and assisted them in getting acquainted to college life.
  • Resident Advisor – During my junior year, I supervised two other leadership roles and was responsible for a floor of 26 women within the residence halls.
  • Student Development Intern – During my senior year, I collaborated with other interns to plan in-services and workshops for over 200 student leaders.

These three involvements especially impacted my growth and helped me foster leadership skills that I still find useful today! I will forever be grateful for the experiences I had while in these roles.

Focusing in on my studies, I declared my major as Urban Studies, with a focus upon Development. I also had a focus within Biblical and Theological Studies, and received a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).

While in the TEFL program, I completed many hours of service-learning within the community and experienced teaching an adult English class at a community organization called Comunidades Latinas Unidas en Servicio (CLUES). This experience made me fall in love with teaching, which is what directed me towards following my passion for educating others!
